Lingerie is fashion at its most intimate and its most exacting. It is worn closest to the skin, judged in the most private moments, and expected to be both weightless and supportive. A corset asks even more: to sculpt the body while feeling, impossibly, as if it were not there at all.
For a brand, this is one of the most demanding categories to develop, and one of the most rewarding to get right.
Why lingerie is so technical
In most garments, a few millimetres rarely matter. In lingerie, they decide everything. A cup that is slightly too shallow, a band with the wrong tension, a strap angled a few degrees off: each changes how the piece supports, how it looks under clothing and how it feels after an hour of wear.
Fine lingerie also uses delicate materials, such as silks, laces, tulles and mesh, that behave very differently from one another and leave little room for correction once cut.
Corsetry: architecture for the body
A true corset is engineered, not simply sewn. Its shape comes from a precise arrangement of panels, each cut to curve exactly where the body curves. Boning gives it structure, placed along the lines where support is needed and nowhere else. Internal layers, waist tapes and closures all work together to hold the silhouette.
The same principles live inside many luxury evening gowns and bridal pieces. Behind a strapless bodice that stays perfectly in place all night, there is almost always an internal corset doing the work invisibly.
Panel engineering and pattern making
This is where luxury lingerie is won or lost. Our couture pattern maker sculpts each piece by hand, in paper, directly on the form, using the heritage Alta Moda moulage method. Panels are shaped on the body, by eye, so every seam follows the figure and every bone sits where it should, before anything is translated into the flat pattern.
Our atelier has deep experience in lingerie, eveningwear and corsetry, from boning and internal corset construction to complex panel engineering, and our couture pattern maker brings that experience to every style.
The lingerie tech pack
A lingerie tech pack must record far more than most: every panel and its grain, cup construction, wire and boning specifications, elastic types and tensions, closures, lace placement and the finishing of every edge. Developed together with the pattern, it becomes a precise record of a piece that already works on the body, complete with the couture-level sewing notes that delicate materials require.
Sampling and fitting
Lingerie and corsetry samples should always be tried on a fit model in your sample size, with written notes and photographs from every angle. Fine adjustments are normal, and one or two rounds of refinement are typical before approval.
Choosing a luxury lingerie manufacturer
- Ask who drafts the patterns, and how much corsetry and structured lingerie they have made.
- Ask how they handle delicate materials and lace placement.
- Ask how fittings and corrections are managed, especially remotely.
- Make sure you will own your patterns and technical files.
Begin with the architecture
Whether you are creating a lingerie line, a corsetry collection or eveningwear with internal structure, the support your clients feel is built into the pattern long before the first sample. Our Technical Foundation gives you a hand-sculpted, hand-drafted Couture Pattern and a Couture Tech Pack for each style, developed together, made in English and owned entirely by you.
