Your original paper draft can be prepared and shipped to you anywhere in the world, added at checkout for €150 — the labor to finish it for travel, plus shipping.

Our method

It is drafted by hand, on the body.

The pattern is shaped in paper directly on the mannequin — the Alta Moda moulage method, still used inside leading Roman couture ateliers, Valentino among them. The Couture Patternmaker sculpts the form in three dimensions by hand, then translates it to the flat pattern. Fit, balance and the way a garment moves are decided on the body, not estimated at a keyboard.

A high starting point

Your Couture Patternmaker builds the fit on the form from the first draft, so your pattern arrives at a genuinely high technical level. You will still refine it once you see it in fabric — every pattern evolves through sampling — but you begin from something precise.

The pattern itself

Engineered to the body.

You receive a sample-ready pattern — the industry standard, at couture level — with every grainline, notch, dart and seam allowance marked, ready for your atelier or your factory's sample maker to cut from directly.

Because a Couture Patternmaker drafts it, the fit is already very close. Moving a design from two dimensions into three always brings some corrections — but the garment will not fit poorly, because the pattern is engineered around the lines of the body, the way the body moves, and its proportion. Our method is as creative and artistic as it is technical: we know exactly where a seam belongs on the body, judged by eye on the mannequin, always to balance and proportion.

Timelines are estimates and shift with the atelier's schedule and the time of year — the atelier closes for part of August.

Designed, not just produced

The design comes first.

Before a pattern is drafted, the garment is drawn — silhouette, proportion, detail and materials worked out by hand, in sketch and in technical flat. Taste is the part that cannot be outsourced.

Before you order

A few things worth knowing.

When does work begin?
As soon as your order and intake form are in. There is no quote to approve, and no call is required before or after purchase. Once your order and completed intake are received, your project enters technical review. If our Couture Patternmaker requires specific clarification before beginning, the atelier will contact you directly.
What counts as one style?
One garment. A two-piece set — a top and a bottom, say — is two patterns, one for each garment, each drafted and priced on its own.
How long does a pattern take?
About 1–3 weeks per style, from your completed intake. It varies with the atelier's schedule and the time of year.
What size is the pattern?
One base size. Grading across your range is a separate pre-production service, priced on its own according to your design and pattern pieces, and not included in the Technical Foundation — and it is done only once a sample has confirmed the pattern, since a first draft changes after the first fitting.
Can I take it to my own factory?
Yes. You own the pattern and can produce it anywhere. Many clients do.
Can you work from a sketch, a reference or an existing garment?
Yes — a sketch, a tech pack, a photograph or a sample to work from. The more you give us, the more precisely we draft.
Do I need my fabric chosen?
No. The pattern is engineered to a fabric direction — weight, composition, hand — and confirmed against your actual fabric during sampling.
What if something needs adjusting?
Your pattern is drafted once, precisely, by your Couture Patternmaker directly from your tech pack and design — resolved on the mannequin before it reaches you. Once you see it worked up in fabric, any adjustment happens naturally as part of sample development.
Will you sign an NDA?
Yes. Send us yours before you share a sketch and we will sign it.
